TVT Sling Complications: Mesh colon / bowel erosion or perforation
TVT slings have also been found in patient’s colons and bowel. Usually this is an incidental finding at subsequent surgery unless the patient is immediately symptomatic after the initial TVT sling ( i.e. within 24 hours). Drs. Miklos and Moore have patients who have then found the TVT sling traversing/perforating the bowel and colon when they performed secondary surgeries on patients who previously had a TVTsling.
Patients with colon and bowel perforations after TVT can present with immediate complications and symptoms such as: fever, infection, abscess, sepsis. Patients have also been known to be symptom free initially and present months or years later with problems of abdominal bloating, pain, constipation and painful bowel movements.
