TOT Sling Complications: TOT Mesh Exposure / Extrusion

All slings whether synthetic ( ie polypropylene mesh) or other can extrude through the vaginal skin. If this happens patients are not always subject to symptoms. Patients can suffer from the following:

• - vaginal pain
• - pain during sex
• - vaginal bleeding
• - partner can feel the mesh during sex

If the patient is not sexually active and the mesh isnt bothering her then she does not NEED to have the mesh removed. The mesh should only be removed if the patient and the doctor believe the benefits will outweigh the risks of her surgery. See video below:
